The Port House, Stourport-On-Severn

No longer a Wetherspoons - sold to Hawthorns Leisure in May 2016. After a month - it remains the same. Same tired decor, punters. On a positive note, they still have a wide selection of real ales (8ish) and my Salopian Gold at £2.20 was both superb and a steal at the price.

This old pub was rebuilt in the 1930s and is much larger than the road frontage would suggest (although, if you approach from the bridge direction then the various extensions are obvious). Nothing surprising about the interior, but the small side terrace has a good view of the lower canal basins plus the unexpected (and loud) seaside-type funfair. A reasonable selection from the eight handpumps, including the 6.3% Backyard East India great value at just £1.99.

Easy to find, its next to the funfair and river bridge.You may be lucky to get a parking place but remember to pay for it. On entry you will find a large single area with one bar.As per norm for JDWs you will find a good selection ales and plenty of other drinks, but never enough staff. The place can be very busy on weekends. Stourport has a strange air of a rundown seaside resort with its funfair,boat rides and ver good fish and chip shops.It is a popular drive out for people in the Midlands.These visitors can fill this pub in the summer and weekends. A very nice patio has now been spoiled by an adjacent noisey fun fair ride.
