The Royal Tiger (JD Wetherspoon), Wednesfield, Wolverhampton

This is a fairly decent JD Wetherspoons pub which was a bakery until 2000, it is open plan but has two distinct areas, a public bar at the front and a dining area at the back. As you enter the public bar the large counter is along the left hand wall, there are two large flat screen TVs on the walls, one front left corner and the other back right corner, in the front window on the right of the room are a couple of leather sofas and there is also a mix of high and standard tables. The dining area has half a dozen booths down the right hand side, sporting celebrity paintings on the left wall and double doors at the back which lead out to a paved patio area with large potted shrubs. The patio has a view over the canal which runs directly behind the pub. Regular ales are Greene King Abbot Ale, Ruddles Best Bitter and Banks’s Mild with up to five changing guest beers which on this occasion were Theakston Old Peculiar, Courage Directors, Holden’s Ay It and Mordue Summer Tyne. The Directors and Summer Tyne were in good condition (GBG 2012 and Cask Marque). Building and décor are unremarkable but this is one of the better spoons in my opinion, there was once a much older pub called the Royal Tiger a couple of buildings down from here which was built in 1875 and closed in 1994. The selection of ales in here is normally well balanced across the different styles and strengths (unlike many spoons) and they keep a good pint. I shall return.

This is a nice version of a McSpoons and a good pint. Nothing spectactual, but worth a drink if in the area.
