The Royal Tiger (JD Wetherspoon), Wednesfield, Wolverhampton

Hilariously stumbled upon from the canal, where there is a sign for secret access. I will post a photo, which may or not be published. Absolutely packed on a Monday afternoon. Cask Jaipur for £2.79 may have had something to do with this. I was served by a harassed looking lad who got the right arse with me when I suggested I would like a full pint. First attempts was 20% shy. Even at £2.79, I like to get full value.

Two lots of hand pulls with almost identical beers on both. I went for Danish Dynamite from Stonehenge which was in decent nick. Busy with early afternoon trade including plenty of 'coffee drinkers' so hardly any seating available. Decent enough pub though.

Standard-issue 'spoons, housed in a former bakery (although you would never know it). Nothing very remarkable about the interior, but all clean and tidy. Not a bad selection from the two banks of five handpumps, from which the Fistful of Hops from Falstaff Brewery (£2.19) looked the most appealing.

This place seems to have declined since some of the reviews below as I found it to be a fairly average JDW. It's a rather dull rectangular room where the aircon ducts are exposed. The colour scheme was a rather odd red and pale green and there is lower seating and a few booths at the rear. It wasn't very busy on my Wednesday afternoon visit. The ten hand pumps had two unused, the two GK beers doubled up, Enville Ginger, Caledonian XPA, Robinson's Trooper and Woods Pot Of Gold. I went for the Enville Ginger (£2.79) which bizarrely was priced at a huge 60p dearer than the standard guest ale. It was in reasonable condition. Later in the day I noticed the same beer on sale in their more expensive Wolverhampton outlet for just £2.65. I really didn't think this was any more than a very marginally above average Spoons.

We popped in here on a Thursday around lunchtime and the place was very busy. In spite of this, the service was fast and efficient. Quite a few of the ales had 'coming soon' labels that had fallen off, so my choice was limited down to Exmoor Wild Cat, which was fine.
