The Lord Arthur Lee, Fareham

Fareham's other JDW is an old school shop conversion. It's an open plan square room with a low ceiling and the bar at the back right. There is a small patio at the rear. It wasn't too busy on my Tuesday mid afternoon visit. The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had one available soon, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Sadler's Peaky Blinder, Itchen Valley Hampshire Rose, t ciders, Irvine Invincible and a beer from the festival from two or three weeks ago. I went for the Peaky Blinder (£2.60) which was in good condition but expensive for a beer that should be the standard guest ale price of £2.45. Fareham should count itself lucky to still have two Spoons. Both are GBG 2017 listed and they are the only entries for the town.

A basic JDW housed in a regular, square shop front with the additional interest of upstairs toilets. The décor is sombre and unappealing, but the staff are cheerful, while the clientele is the usual mix of families, CAMRA-types and shoppers. Five ales on: I had a pint of Flacks Double Drop which was over-gassed and lacked the usual taste. Nothing to make this pub stand out, it's worth dropping in if passing or using CAMRA vouchers for a cheap pint, I'd include on a crawl, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Dull 'spoons in a former Co-op store. Largish 'L'shape bar with a small rear patio smoking area. Eight handpumps, mostly usual suspects but two beers from the local Upham micro-brewery (including Stakes Ale, £2.35).GBG 2011 listed. (NB - Review dates from August 2011).

Went in recently whilst 'doing' a few pubs in the area. Not as large as quite a few 'spoons but many other aspects the same. Long wait to be served;instead of noting who was waiting the barstaff simply kept asking 'who's next?' needless to say it didn't matter how long you were waiting. The other 'usual' was that real ale (winter warmer) was served at the too cold fizzy lager temperature. An average 'spoons, okay if you don't mind them and are in the area.
