Caddyshack, Elland

Housed in an old bank and an adjacent building it’s a bit of a nightclub/cocktail bar vibe. Over a variety of floor levels the main counter is on the ground level in the old bank bit. L shaped and with vertical padding it has two horseshoes of standard but more mid market kegs including some “bitters”. Up a few steps to the left it’s more restauranty decor with dining tables and chairs, I didn’t venture too far, the afternoon crowd were mainly working chaps in hi-vis with unfashionable views freely expressed. Some odd art nouveaux items of decor and a glass dome in the old bank bit as well as a rotating door. Odd place, a strange mix of punters, aforementioned salt of the earth lager drinkers plus young wannabe middle class cocktail drinking couples.

With the name Caddyshack I was expecting an over-the-top golf themed bar, but although there are a few golf prints the décor is tastefully done. However, I was disappointed not to see any gophers! The small bar on the right wall faces some high tables and steps up to some raised seating in the left-hand side of the pub. Food seems to be the main draw here, there are traditional pub grub and Thai menus. I had the burger and pint deal for £10.95 which was good value. There are lots of other food deals advertised around the bar which supports a standard keg range alongside San Miguel and Estrella. The are also two hand pumps that were both drawing Wainwright. Televisions are located throughout for showing Sky Sports, which was muted in favour of some background music. Out the back is an enclosed split-level beer garden complete with “19th Hole” outside bar and BBQ. It was busy in here, especially for a Tuesday evening, and rightly so because this is a friendly and comfortable bar that does good food. This is also the only bar, that was not part of a hotel, that I have had to negotiate a revolving door to enter.
