Grey Horse Inn, Manchester

The Grey Horse Inn is a tiny little pub with a U-shaped bar on the left wall that faces six small tables that run along the right hand wall. These tables are split by a small wall that has a beer shelf attached to maximise drinking space. The bar supports a premium keg range and also Carlsberg. There are five hand pumps, that were drawing Hydes own Original, Hopster, Dark Ruby and Lowry. I have noted “Prague” as being on the fifth pump, but I cannot find it and my phone may have autocorrected. There are a couple of televisions for showing live sports, although there is a slight delay between them, apparently. Out the back is an “outside – inside” toilet where you stand inside and pee into an old Victorian drain gutter. There are a couple of pubs in Brighton with the same set up. I found the service to be very friendly and the atmosphere was spot on, especially when compared to next door. Well worth a visit.

Looking pretty much like an unspoiled city centre pub, it's a single room with an horseshoe shaped counter to one side, bench seating and a few cast iron tables with stools, a modernish window looking out onto Portland St, er that’s it. Simple but nice. Five pulls, Hyde’s Bitter and Mild although with daft names, and Hyde’s Lowry and a rugby themed special, the other beer looked like a guest from a local small brewery. A mirror and some old photos form the decor.

Struggle to find a more traditional boozer. Maybe next door - at the Circus Tavern :-) Single roomed. Good Beer Guide 2020 Entry. Handful of handpulls - I had a Winters Tale and couldn't find anything about it on Untappd, so don't know the brewery. Fine beer for the season.

Saturday afternoon visit. I have only been in here once before, must be about five years ago, and it was smaller inside than I remembered. It's a nice little pub, with five cask ales at the bar, which is about one different ale for every table in the pub. When I visited there was Hydes Original, Zesty Jester (Kansas Avenue), Old Indie (Hydes), Jutland (Hydes), and something by Brew House(?) that I didn't make a proper note of. The lady serving, who I assumed to be the landlady, was pleasant and friendly and seemed calm and in control of her pub. It's a small pub so I deliberately planned to go in the afternoon when it would be less busy, in fact this was the first visit of a bit of a crawl on Saturday. A better selection of ales than I was expecting.

A narrow but tidy little Hydes pub. The interior has a single room the curves around the bar in white and wood panel, with old photos of Manchester on the walls. Still has bench seats, as well as tables and chairs - so quite traditional. Music was at a decent level and there are a few TVs showing sport in silence. The service was fine and the clientele mature. There were 5 real ale handpulls from the Hydes stable: Original, Zesty Jester, Captain Bill, and a decent Den Haag Ale and Old Indie MILD. I really liked it here and would definitely go back.
