The White Lion is situated in a good position on Castle Square,but thought the smart exterior flattered to deceive as the inside was slightly disappointing, with the decor dated and seemed to be tired looking with the plastered walls done in a drab looking colour.Half of the pub seems to be for residents only,and out of the two handpumps on the bar one had sold out and the other was coming soon. The barman was friendly enough and thought the fireplace was the best of the pubs internal features.

I held my birthday lunch party at the White Lion on 20 February 2010. The food was the best in the area for miles and miles and miles. My 23 guests were overwhelmed by the Five Star food and service provided by the delightful owners and their staff and even masterpiece of a birthday cake was produced. The attentive and cheerful service made for an unforgettable day..

A nice white rendered exterior, with black paintwork and wood beam, with a beer patio The place is a hotel, restuarant and bar and not one of these places that is as much a pub and just calls itself a hotel. As such, the bar that i saw was very small, heavily populated, very modern in decor and i didnt see anything i would want to drink - all seemingly to be keg stuff. Hence i turned and left. The chap behind the bar was perfectly friendly, just not my kind of place.
