The Court House, Dudley

A mock tudor stone and brick corner pub, with dormer windows - it looks class. The interior had two rooms a small side room, that i didn't really see and a longer bar and food area. The bogs look like they are in an old WWII basement air-raid shelter (and i dont mean that in a bad way). The decor is a creamy wallpaper, with the usual BCA posters for interest and there is a fine wood bar. There was a dart board - it looked brand new. The service is great - indeed, i played dart against the gaffer in the Lamp pub down the road later. The clientele were mature and it was reasonably busy. The music was quiet and rock based. Beer; tap stuff, but a board with all the handpull beers on is easily visable. Along with the main three BCA beers, there were three ciders and around 9 other beers - the Bewdley Brewery's William Mucklow MILD and the Highgate MILD were decent, as was the Gateshead Gold from the Northumberland Brewery. Class - what more can you say - perhaps absolute class.

This is a good sized U-shaped pub that I thought would be very pleasant as I approached, but I was wrong. It is dark and badly decorated and the barmaid that served me was nothing less than rude. There was no escape from the smell of food from the kitchen and only Pride was available out of the four ales shown. My Guinness was not the best and I regretted handing over any money. I cannot recommend this pub to others.

A fine pub along similar lines to the Wellington in Bimingham or the Black Country Arms in Walsall. Dudley town centre needed a place like this. It is situated next to the police station, about 200 yards from the main bus station. It serves meals as well which meant that we abstained from the cheese and onion cobs that we had consumed everywhere else on our crawl.

Solidly built brick corner pub with stone framed leaded windows, HANSONS is carved into the lintel above the door. There is a small, twig decorated snug served by a hatch at the front and a larger open plan bar behind. Sixteen handpumps grace the main bar counter, serving ciders and local micro brewery beers mainly from Black Country Ales based in nearby Lower Gornal. There is also a small range of UK kegs. The large room is equipped with smart bench seating, tables and chairs, at one end is an area with balustrades and an open fire. The only wall décor is a number of framed adverts for Black Country Ales and a beer menu blackboard. Beer quality was well up to standard and the service was friendly and quick, I visited on a wet Monday night so there were only a few other customers, of mixed ages and genders but all friendly enough and enjoyuing the fine ales. Quite a handy pub for Dudley Bus Station and local take away emporiums.
