British Hotel, Douglas

The British Hotel is quite an attractive building on the quayside in Douglas. However, inside it lacks atmosphere. Perhaps this was due to a general lack of customers on a Saturday afternoon. The only other customers we saw were a young couple with their baby. The last time I was here it was the final pub of 16 and I visited on a Saturday night. I have to say I don't recall it! Although it was almost 10 years ago. There are 8 handpulls on the long bar and the pub features in the 2025 Good Beer Guide. However, just 2 cask ales from Okell's were on - Bitter & MPA. I opted for a can of their new craft beer range, which wasn't up to much.

Heron & Brearley pub with a Tudor-style facade that somehow seems reminiscent of a British Legion club, but having a thoroughly-refurbished interior in a rather sterile semi-modern style. Embassy function room upstairs (not visited). Okell's MPA (£2.93), Bitter and Steam available from two banks of four handpumps. Gin also a speciality.
