The Corner Pin, York

The Corner Pin is a multi-roomed pub with a front bar area to the right of the entrance with seating along the front windows and a small back bar. There is more seating to the left of the entrance and a pool table can be found in a room to the right rear. Strangely there are pictures of Pat Butcher and another EastEnders character alongside a Dalek and an extensive list of rules. These rules forbid isms and phobias and mention that the toilet is not Noah’s Ark so do not enter in pairs. I think the rules are in place to stop large groups of hen and stag parties from tearing the place down. There is a plasma screen in the bar which was turned off during my Saturday afternoon visit in favour of some background music. I didn’t spot a dartboard, but one is advertised on the exterior so I guess I must have missed it. To the left of the pub is some outside seating. Amongst some standard draught fonts I counted six hand pumps on the bar. Three of these were unused leaving Hobgoblin, Wychwood’s Imperial Red and Cameron ar hon anye as the cask ale options. I didn’t see any food advertised, but some tables had sauces on so food must be available. The young guys running this place seemed nice enough, but I wasn’t massively impressed and do not plan to return anytime soon.
