The Crown, Upper Holloway, N19

I didn't notice anything Irish about this pub now, unless you count the green paint job on the exterior. In my view it would look better if all the layers of paint were removed from the ground floor external wall to reveal the brewery tiles that are probably underneath it all. Judging by the cockerel over the pub sign it was probably hitherto a Courage pub (confirmed by the manager) although the green banded windows are reminiscent of a Charrington fitting. An unused doorway on the Landseer Rd side looks as if may have led into a jug and bottle bar. It's still very much a locals' pub, with a warm feel about it. I like the red curtains framing the windows, the traditional furnishings, and carpet on the floor. The pool table is still at the back, and there's a (or maybe two) dartboard. The counter looks old, but the gantry looks a classic 70s addition. I liked this pub a lot, and would have liked it a lot more had there been a real ale available. It seems they sometimes sell Doom Bar, but its availabilty is a bit hit and miss. I would say visit this one if you want to enjoy a traditional pub atmosphere, but not for the beer.

The Crown is a nice looking corner pub that now sports a green colour outside. Once inside the bar faces in a single L shaped room which is carpeted throughout,there is comfy bench seating and small stools for seating,the TV to the front was showing the Leeds v Sheffield Wednesday game. There were no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of John Smiths Smooth Crap,which was crap. There was a pool table to the rear right,the pub was almost empty on my Saturday afternoon visit. I thought this was a decent comfortable pub to have a drink in,just a shame there was not a real ale on. Pub visited 25/2/2017

Another largish Irish type pub with Sky sports and big fonts selling lagers and Guinness.

L shaped interior with 2 dartboards and a pool table. Standard draught selection.

This is an L-shaped pub that has a red carpet and dark red curtains that cover the old lead lined windows. Apart from the addition of the plasma screens and projector I would imagine that this pub hasn’t changed much in many years. Gaelic football was being shown via RTE on the projector screen to an animated crowd and muted premiership football was being shown on the plasma towards the rear of the pub. Another small TV above the side entrance was showing muted Formula 1 and the jukebox was obviously turned off. It was good to see a couple of dartboards and there is also a pool table which was being played by the only two other Englishmen in the pub. I found the governor to be friendly and although there are no hand pumps I found the Guinness to be very good. There is a courtyard out the back that has a few picnic tables and there are also three more picnic tables on the high street out the front. I don’t speak Gaelic and have no idea of the rules of Gaelic football so I felt a little out of place, but this would be a fine pub to watch the football in when it doesn’t clash with the local’s sports.
