The Tame Otter, Tamworth

Vintage Inn close by the River Tame bridge, with the original building on the Hints Road junction (where the main dining areas are) and a modern rear extension (where the bar and general seating can be found). The latter part is quite attractive, with some exposed timbers, brickwork and fireplace, etc. that don't pretend to be old but fit in well. Substantial patio and grass beer garden by the main back entrance and to one side (almost, but disappointingly not quite, reaching the nearby Birmingham & Fazeley Canal). Three handpumps on the counter, dispensing Doom Bar, Purity Mad Goose (£4.65) and Rosie's Pig cider.

Soup Dragon describes the pub well,and I endorse that Vintage Inns have created a pleasing interior here.There is a drinking area to the left of the front door close to the bar and the Everards Tiger was well kept and slipped down.Ped and another real ale also available.Most punters come in for something to eat,and lunchtime attracts office folk from Tamworth including ,on my visit ,two stunning ladies from the local glamour model agency which certainly gave me a lift and increased the rate of Tiger consumption.Far better pub than the Red Lion over the canal.
