The Prince, Stoke Newington, N16

This is an L shaped pub with stairs at one end that lead up to a function room that is available for hire for groups of fifty or less. The back of the bar is one giant chalk board where an extensive wine list is drawn up along with details of the ‘Cheese and Pineapple’ comedy club that starts at 20:00 on the first Thursday of the month. Food is served and there is a restaurant area a the rear that I did not visit as I’m not prepared to pay between £8 and £12 for a burger and I certainly wouldn’t be adding beetroot for an extra 95p! There is a limited premium and standard draught range and two of the four hand pumps were off, but Pride and Doom Bar were both available. I had a decent pint of Guinness and the barman was friendly enough. There is a big screen in the function room and there is a flat screen TV in the bar area, but this was off and I didn’t spot any advertisements for Sky Sports. However, there are some board games that can be used if the conversation becomes mundane. During the daytime some café style seating is put outside the pub on the backstreet path. This isn’t really my sort of place so I doubt a return visit will happen.
