Bonnie Rogues, Bristol

Recently opened on the site of the former Revolution bar, whilst it has been extensively renovated and refurbished, both the offering and the target demographic are broadly similar, with little in the way of any appeal for anyone who is after a more traditional pub experience, or even just some decent beer come to that. Internally it consists of one large, open plan room with a further mezzanine level at the back overlooking the rest of the pub. Décor wise it’s rather generic, with wood strip on the floor, exposed ducting on the black ceiling with the walls being predominantly wallpapered with some areas of whitewashed brickwork at the front. Lighting was a mixture of exposed filament bulbs in a rig on the ceiling, red industrial style metal lamps, a few chandeliers and plenty of red LED strip lighting. The upper level was perhaps a little more elegant with a few pictures and even a pair of antlers on the wall. A raised island in the centre of the room provided a couple of booths of banquette seating, whilst another small raised seating area was to the left. A stage was at one end with a number of pop art posters on the wall behind, and there was a singer on when we visited. A few TV screens were mounted up above the bar showing a sports channel, and I also noticed a rolled up projector screen. Predictably enough there were no real ales on tap, and little in the way of any keg either from what I could make out, I think there may have been one or two options, but nothing that I recognised. Ciders fared slightly better with Thatcher’s Gold, Aspall’s and a couple from Rekorderlig.
