The Oxted Inn (JD Wetherspoon), Oxted

The one positive thing to say is at least JDW are consistent - even in leafy Surrey. Packed solid with pissed up boozers at lunch time on a Saturday, including one very loud gentlemen in sports gear. Two tables unoccupied - both filthy. So why come? Well, its in the Good Beer Guide so thought I'd get a tick. The real crime here is the real ale was very poor. First pint died during pulling. 2nd, a Windsor Knot - was hazy and lifeless. A well placed pub near the train station, set out internally in typical spoons style.The clientele seemed a little more upmarket than the usual high street crowd, more Pringle jumpers and Ben Sherman shirts than beer stained T shirts and denim jackets, reflecting the general location. Eight handpumps provided a rather corporate return of Adnams Broadside, Marstons Old Empire IPA, Ringwood Old Thumper , Sharps Doom Bar, Greene King IPA and Abbott with the only beer with a modicum being Long Man IPA. Iv'e been in much worse Spoons than this and it wasn't unpleasant on an unseasonally hot day in April,but still a spoons with a below par beer choice, I'm unlikely to return.

This is a purpose built modern pub just to the left of the London bound Oxted station exit and is in a development that includes a Morrisons. The whole complex is so close to the station you have to wonder if it was built on former railway land. Inside it's a long central bar area with raised areas at either end. It's not that big by Spoons standards. There are two sets of four hand pumps, a boring one with GK IPA & Abbot, Doom Bore and London Pride. The other four had Hogs Back Surrey Nirvana, Hopdaemon Incubs & Green Daemon and Oakham JHB. I tried the Surrey Nirvana and Green Daemon both of which seemed to be in good nick. This isn't a bad Spoons but didn't strike me as anything special.

Very boring Wetherspoon's which although is light and airy inside had a very poor selection of guest beers and was full of screaming kids. Next to the railway station so at least you can make a quick exit to get away.
