No longer goose branded. A large open plan interior serving 5 real ales and food.

The Goose on the Market is a large open plan high street pub where cheap food and drink can be purchased. The bar runs up the right hand wall where standard draught products are supported. There are also six hand pumps that were all, unforgivingly, badged up with Greene King IPA. Plasma screens are located throughout for showing live sports on Sky and BT Sports. There are also a couple of pool tables that were being used by some locals that looked as though they hand been in the pub all day. I suppose this was of no surprise considering this pub is cheaper than Wetherspoons. I did chuckle to myself when I heard one customer say to his friend who was moaning about an unpaid debt “How can a man of so little means be owed money?” I’d rather pay the extra and drink somewhere pleasant so I’ll not be returning in a hurry.

Dull, uninteresting chain pub housed under Surrey House (a particularly dull and interesting office block). Large 'L'-shaped bar with various different seating areas. However with offers like bangers (3) & mash at £1.99, you can see why some people go there to eat. EPA and Bombardier (£2.40) available from the six handpumps. Served its purpose for a cheap lunch.

With the Green Dragon on one side, the Dog and Bull on the other and the Ship over the road, you'd be forgiven for over looking this place every time. But it does have one saving grace, inasmuch as the beer is significantly cheaper than pretty much anywhere else in town. The two ales on today were Greene King IPA - £1,69 and Spitfire - £1,95 and really, that is the point of this place. Of course, you have to suffer all of the downsides of a boozer with cheap drinks, but lunchtimes are probably the best time to take advantage of the prices, which extend to the menu as well.
