Wetherspoons (JD Wetherspoon), Leeds

pretty standard station spoons with one long room catering mostly for commuters. There are a good number of hand pulls at inflated prices but nothing to completely bring a tear to the eye. There were a god range of guest beers allong side doombar (£2.70) Gk ipa (£2.50) and abbot (£2.99) I opted for a pint of dale side vote out for £2.99 there were a few others at a price £3.40 for a guest ale such as Acorn Barnsley Bitter. The beer was in a nice condition and there is a nice outside seating area that catches the sun. This is a fine point of call when you have half an hour to spare waiting for a train like I did but I wouldent bother for any other reason.

This Spoons is situated at the end of a long concourse on Leeds train station. Once inside there is a smallish single room by normal Spoons standards,the room is slightly curved,the longish bar is also curved,there were about 10 pumps on the bar with the usuall Doom Bar and Abbot,the other bank had Christmas beers on,i had a drink of a Moorhouse Christmas beer which went down well after my journey up here. I could'nt really get a good look of the pub at 10.15 in the morning because it was packed with Leeds fans. This would be a decent enough Spoons if visited at a quieter time. Pub visited 13/12/2014

I tried to get in here at around 10:30 on my way through in the morning but it was packed to the rafters. I've no idea who they all were but a town security guard on the door suggested I return at 11:00 or 11:30 when they would have gone. I returned at around 18:30 to find that I could at least get served. I went for a Saltaire New World Red which was in very good nick but at £3.15 is Central London Spoons prices. I felt glad I had not bothered to spend more than an hour in the centre of Leeds.

Busy 'Spoons at back end of station and exactly as you might expect. Good range of beers, although the sampled stout clearly wasn't selling enough. Fit for purpose, but have seeen better.

Located at the attractive Art Deco end of Leeds station, this JDW serves as a strange conduit for commuters with 20 minutes to spare for a quick pint and the first city stopping-off point for various types of vertical drinker making it a transient experience even by the standards of a town-centre Spoons. A couple of saving graces are the entrances directly into the mainline station and the presence of departure boards. 10 pumps on when I visited and my ale was decent enough. The large curved interior is fairly bland and jumbled but there’s a decent outside area with some seating that catches the early evening sunshine nicely, making it one the few Wetherspoon outlets where al fresco drinking is actually a worthwhile experience rather than a boxed-in fume cage. Given that the Scarborough and Brewery Tap are within two minutes of this one, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it unless you happen to have a few unexpected minutes.
