The Argyle, EC1

Slightly unpromising-looking pub located in a modern block. However, it is much larger than it looks from the main entrance with the modernised Terrace Bar (well-sheltered by high glass screens) at first-floor level and a cellar bar (closed for a private function) in addition to the irregularly-shaped main bar area (with its light decor and fairly traditional furniture) in between. There is also a patio seating area on the Leather Lane side. Four handpumps (plus another upstairs), offering Pride, Cottage Hops & Glory and two from Oldershaw - Mowbray's Mash and Caskade (£3.25). Overall, much better than I remembered from its previous incarnation.

The former King of Diamonds, recently underwent it's long awaited refurbishment in February '12. Since then it has gone from strength to strength. The exterior of the pub looks much better, with new furniture, better deals throughout the week, and, a THIRD bar in the Cellar. A great end of the week atmosphere and now open Saturday and Sunday!
