The Malthouse, Willenhall

The former cinema and Dale bingo hall and now a part of the Wetherspoons chain, the rather art deco exterior is in white render and purple and there is a patio area. The interior is a rather large L-shape and you have to go up the stairs and turn to the left to actually get to the serving bar area. It is, of course, being a Spoons, laid out for food, but there is a sofa area, under the high moulded ceiling area, formerly the auditorium i guess. The decor is the usual multi-coloured white, red, green, peach and so on, with a mix of arty pictures and old photos as Spoons usually do. The food was perfectly adequate and the service was fine. The clientele was the usual Spoons mix and there was no music. Beer; tap stuff with Aboots and Ruddles on handpull. I have been a couple of times and there are usually 4 or so guests on as well - the Butcombe Xmas Steps was so-so, the Arundel Old Scrooge was OK. The place feels better than the average Spoons to me, though the beer was the usual up and down quality. A good refurbishment though and service was fine.
