The Crown Inn, Bristol

Well described by others below, I found the bar unwelcoming and devoid of atmosphere. There was no real ale on draft, even though there were banners outside advertising various brands. There was junk food available, a large screen and project ready for a screening of – not sure what. The barmaid was somewhat chaotic, and it took a rather long time to serve the couple in front who were ordering food, and the whole thing just seemed disorganised. Given the difficulty parking and the lack of reward on arriving, I shall probably just drive past in future.

A pleasing stone building with a two room layout.There is a corner door to the main bar room ,while an internal door leads to a side snug.Beyond each room there is a small reception area for the accomodation and an equally small dining area in pine furniture. It's owned by a pubco,restricting the choice of ale and on my visit that meant GK Abbott and CW Old Speckled Hen,although St Austell Tribute was supplied as a guest ale for a party booking,and it was in good nick. A genuine pub,the bar staff were very friendly and there was also a choice of some exotic gin from a short menu.

A traditional, no-frills boozer on the outskirts of Keynsham, this has got the potential to be a decent enough local’s pub, but when I was in there recently at around 10:30pm on a Friday evening there were only four other punters in there. If that’s typical, it’s long term future must be a little uncertain. One of the punters had a rather annoying habit of doing a very loud, single clap every couple of minutes, in spite of being asked not to by the barmaid. The first time Mrs. B jumped and nearly dropped her pint. The main bar runs along the front of the pub, and this was fairly rough and ready with wooden boards on the floor and bench style seating running along the front wall. The woodwork had been painted a deep salmon colour, and this included cladding on the lower part of the walls. There was an exposed stone chimney breast and fire in the back corner, and a couple of low leather sofa’s next to it. A plasma screen was showing a music channel, whilst two further screens were unused. A Sky Sports board was on the wall, so presumably major fixtures are shown. A door at the back was marked restaurant, and although it didn’t strike me as a food orientated pub by any means, there was a chalkboard advertising a breakfast menu and Sunday roasts as well as a Monday night Curry & Pint deal. There is also an elevated garden to one side from memory. Beers on tap were Doom Bar and Bombardier. Ciders were Blackthorn and Thatcher’s Gold, whilst a third pump for Thatcher’s Heritage appeared to have run out. The ‘fridge was also well stocked with cans of Natch.
