Town Hall Tavern, Stockport

The Town Hall Tavern has sunken seating to the left and a bar counter to the right that supports standard keg alongside Madri. There’s a dartboard on a raised area in the right front and televisions were airing Euros2024 football via BBC. This is a well-trodden biker themed pub that had a decent crowd in playing on the dartboard during a recent midweek evening visit.

This small split level pub doesn't seem to have changed much from below. It's a bit dog eared and there is a dart board at the rear where the stage is. I sat in the lower area where the pinball machine kept making noises as though it was trying to say something to me. The bar has no hand pumps but they did have Robinson's Trooper on keg (£2.60) which was a vast improvement on the usual smooth suspects. I found this place to be better than I expected.

A split level bikers pub. A few tables and a pinball machine (not working on my visit). Up a few steps to some more tables and chairs and a small stage at the rear. All the seating is really poor quality, more reminiscent of a greasy spoon cafe than a pub. Lots of music posters on the walls. No real ale of course. This is a really poor pub.

We are talking basic here. Basic decor, basic furnishings, basic beer.

A local tackled me while taking a photo here, so I asked him what the beer was like. "The best in town", he said loyally, so I went in. There's a room at the front which is lower than the main bar area at the back, and looks more like a cafe than a lounge, but access from the side door brings you straight to the bar. A couple of murals were painted by a former bar worker, apparently. There's no real ale here, so I made do with a half of Boddingtons emasculated smooth. The atmosphere was convivial and the regulars seem a friendly bunch, who are doubtless quite happy drinking bland and fizzy lagers. For me, a couple of real ales on the bar would make this a useful stop if between trains at the nearby station, but I can't see myself calling in for another Boddies.

Called in here on the 14th of March very tired pub it was about 4pm only two in they were pleasant enough. But with the bottle coolers empty its not going to be open much longer.But as we all know there will be another one with big dreams and big ideas Will call back next time i am over there
