Modestly refurbished recently, and given its original name back at the same time. Although partly opened out, it retains various different seating areas on three sides of the central bar counter. With a mixed clientele, the left-hand side feels like a traditional boozer, whereas the remainder has a more slightly more upmarket look. Unadventurous draught beer choice, with Landlord (£4.30) being the only cask ale offering from the pair of handpumps.

The Nelson Tavern has banquette seating to the right of the entrance where there’s also a fireplace in the right hand wall. In the fireplace is a vase full of twigs. To the left of the entrance is a double sided chimney breast that separates two small seating areas along the front windows. There’s a pool table in the left rear and more seating in the right rear. The L-shaped bar in the centre of the rear wall supports six keg fonts with a mix of standard and premium products. There are also two hand pumps, one was unused and the Wychwood’s Hobgoblin was in good condition. During my recent Tuesday evening visit there was some background music playing to lots of pissed up locals. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit here again, but I’d maybe pop in if passing.
