The Herbert Wells (JD Wetherspoon), Woking

The Herbert Wells is a large Wetherspoons in the heart of Woking Town Centre that has extended opening times until midnight Sunday through to Thursday and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. It is mainly open plan and was very busy with a student crowd early on Friday evening, but I was promptly served a decent pint of Guinness. A standard draught selection is available and I counted at least 18 hand pumps that were drawing the usual JDW ales alongside numerous guests. The usual drink and food promotions are advertised throughout the bar and there is a plasma screen either end of the pub which were both showing muted rolling news. This is probably a place to go to more for the beer than the atmosphere.

Classic 'Spoons - has a good range of ales, but the floor was like treacle, the toilets were minging and the tables were dirty - terrible for a Sunday afternoon, hasn't the duty manager got the gumption to do some basic cleaning before they open up?!? At least it has the comedy backwards clock on the ceiling, go to the far pillar to press the switch - if you can get out of the quicksand at the bar.

Large Spoons, lots of beer to choose from. Going here is handy for avoiding the chavs outside, shocking location but good pub.

A typical "Spoons", good range of competitively priced beers, but as ever a bit subdued, even down at heel inside. Not been in of an evening only lunch so maybe lively later? The immediate local area however has many establishments that cater for the younger circuit drinker.

Vast Lloyds No 1 Bar on three levels. It gets packed with students during term time. A fair range of real ales with a couple from the local Hogs Back Brewery. 5 minutes from the Railway/Bus Stations.
