Cassidy's, Tunbridge Wells

Located down the short and narrow Castle Street which has a cobbled road is an Irish pub called Cassidy’s. The interior is rather dark and there is an O’Neill’s feeling about the place, but I feel that I am doing a disservice to this pub by associating them with the plastic oirish chain. The bar is located on the back wall downstairs and there is a balcony that overlooks the bar as it sweeps around the second floor seating area. There are a few snug areas tucked away in the dimly lit corners and there are a couple of plasma screens for showing Sky Sports. There is also a projector screen for the big games and there was some low background music playing off the jukebox during my recent Wednesday afternoon visit. The pub was empty before I walked in so the barmaid was using the free time to do some cleaning, but she was straight behind the bar to serve me as soon as I was noticed. She was very friendly and poured a decent pint of Guinness. There are no real ales here, but I don’t know of many Irish pubs that have hand pumps. There are better pubs in the area, but this is probably the best Irish one!
