The Navy Inn, Penzance

I found a simple enough bar area with a knocked through room on the left. The bar supports various fonts for Korev, cloudy cider and the usual candidates, as well as pumps for Tribute and Exeter Avocet. Tables are numbered up for diners, even on Mondays when the chef has a day off. Fine enough and, for my brief visit, quiet in terms of visitors, if not the somewhat out of place techno soundtrack.

This is a small terraced pub with patio area. The pub is stone built, but white rendered, with blue paintwork on the upper sash windows (one blocked) and large frontage window. The interior has an L-shaped room, which also is in white and blue, but with stone work and wood floor. The place seems to have a very good reputation for food, but we didn't eat here so can't comment on that. The walls have naval ephemera on them and i didn't see a TV and there was no music. The service was great, i had a good chat to the publican. The clientele was small, but it was early - and they were eating. Beer; usual tap stuff with Doombar abnd a decent enough Skinner's Betty Stoggs on handpull. All in all, a good experience - the beer choices may be commonplace in Cornwall, but it was well kept and although the emphasis is on food, as the noble Mr B points out below, you don't feel out of place going in for a drink.
