Sat atop a hill and catches the light rather magnificently. Quite a grand looking building, with a sculpted garden at the front. A traditional, comfy L interior with multi-coloured pub carpet, blue fabric seating and nicotine coloured painted embossed wallpaper. Mainly foodie but no issue with drinking once you've answered the obligatory dining question at the bar. Three pumps with two marked on the blackboard but just one actually operational - Fyne Ales Jarl - which was in excellent shape despite the less than-modern-glassware, a rather pitted pint stamp glass, which seemed incongruous given the effort made elsewhere – chuck it out! Roger's wallet wobbler tale below was repeated here, a pint and a can of Irn Bru came out at a faintly ludicrous £7.20. Gets a lot of POTY awards from the local CAMRA branch but I guess that maybe reflects a paucity of genuine competition. It's fine here but not necessarily worth the 8 quid for the bus ticket out of Aberdeen for a special visit, to be honest.

The interior of the pub is traditional and 'English' with geraniums in the window boxes. It is burgundy and cream in colour. It is rather dark in here. I found the pub comfortable. The food was very tasty; I had the Ploughmans, the others in the group had tuna sandwiches and prawn sandwiches. We arrived just as the kitchen closed, and they were still happy to serve us. The beer was the usual with three real ales, Brew Dog Trashy Blonde (awful - well kept, but just not to my taste) and Inveralmond Independence and Thrappledouser, both delicious. I would recommend this highly.
