The Globe Inn, Lostwithiel

You’d be forgiven for walking straight past it – a strange sideways bitsa abutment onto the narrow road that didn’t clearly shout ‘pub!’ through the pouring rain in which I found myself. Inside is a nice comfy place with an odd snaking layout – a locals area at the front, a cosier quasi-dining area further back and then a couple of other areas off a dog leg. A well-tended rear patio is available and it’s a shame the weather was so bad I couldn’t try it out. GBG 2024 with a very friendly young barman presiding over three Otter ales, my choice of the Bitter was a bit heavy going and lacked vim (NBSS 2.5). Music from the early 60s fitted nicely on a gloomy Sunday afternoon, punctuated by one of the locals having a videocall with his scrotey-looking girlfriend who was busy taking him through the previous day’s knicker shop (thankfully, not modelling). Despite the sub-par beer, I warmed to this one.

Whilst the beer was good (Betty Stogs) unfortunately it was difficult to purchase it. One of my biggest gripes is people sitting at the bar and stopping other clientele getting beer and this pub was the worst I've encountered. The bar is of sufficient size but due to customers sitting at it there was only about 1foot of space left to get a drink. I don't think I'll be returning.
