The York Arms is a Sam Smiths pub that is split into a left hand bar (that I did not visit), a small snug at the front that is accessed through a space saving sliding door to the right and a rear dining area to the right that is served by a hatch. The kitchen is open during spring months from midday until 15:00 and the pub grub mains are priced between a very reasonable £5 and £7.50. The beer is cheap, less than £1 for a half, and as per Sam Smith’s policy there was no television or music playing. I found the quiet in here away from the madness outside very tranquil and next time I find myself surrounded by drunken Teesside folk I will think of this pub.
