The Feathers Hotel, York

I visited the Pickwick Bar which is labelled separately to the main hotel but all part of the same building. This is a nice traditional feeling pub with low ceilings, wooden beams and pillars, and brasses. Sky Sports was on the TV but only on quietly showing the darts at the time of my visit, so unobtrusive. There were a few people in, mainly crowded round the bar, but also a table of diners in the seating area to the left. This was on a Wednesday afternoon in December. At the bar were four hand pulls for cask ale, dispensing Tetley Cask, Black Sheep Best Bitter and Pickwick Pale Ale (by Camerons). I went for the Pickwick Pale at £1.90 for a half, and this was fine and probably the best of an uninspiring selection. Perhaps not somewhere I would feel the need to rush back to, but I felt more comfortable in here than I did in the Black Swan.

Nice hotel, good food, and a proper bar attached to the side for the drinkers. A couple from Black Sheep on - including Baa Baa. Juke Box appealing to the younger members of society. Until I get on it and load it up with Iggy Pop. Nice place. Visit blogged at http://bit.ly/2Jb9inN
