New Inn, York

I've been to Easingwold a few times over the years but never visited the New Inn, something I have put right today. Based on the other pubs in Easingwold I wasn't expecting much on the real ale front so I was pleased to find three hand pulls on the bar, offering Yorkshire Sparkle by Treboom, Pale Aura by Bad Co, and Theakston Best Bitter. Obviously I was more pleased about the first two, especially with Treboom being a local brewery just a few miles down the road. As you enter the pub the area to the right is set out for dining with the left side available for drinkers. This in itself is split up into two sections and may well have been two rooms originally. There is an old looking fire / stove (not in use today) and overall the pub feels cosy and welcoming even when it was pretty empty with just another couple of customers in. Pleasant music at a sensible volume added to the ambience. The first section in front of the bar has bare boards, the second has a rather strange bristly carpet as if it was one giant doormat. My Yorkshire Sparkle was £1.85 for a half. Service was friendly. Definitely worth venturing in if you're in Easingwold.

We called into Easingwold on our way to York races this Saturday. As we drove down the main street into Easingwold, we noticed a pretty average pub with lovely flowers outside. However, average is not what you find as you walk through the door. What a revelation! Its not what we expected. Modern interior with leather sofas, but still loads of character. The pub was really busy with people eating, but the staff were still welcoming & helpful advising us of a small wait due to being busy. We ordered from a £.8.95 set menu with beer or wine included in the price and sat in their lovely beer garden to eat our meal. We were served lovely fresh food & proper chips, in fantastic surroundings. I wish it were on my doorstep.
