The Hallamshire House, Crookesmoor, Sheffield

Excellent side-street pub, retaining small rooms on either side of the entrance, the bar / standing area in the centre, a larger seating / dining room back left and the snooker room back right. Modernised in a sensitive way by Thornbridge, with a mixed clientele of different ages. Wide range of cask ales - including Sequoia, Green Mountain, Pacific Ocean Blue, Astryd and Jaipur as well as the 'house' Les's Best and Brother Rabbit - and a similarly diverse selection of craft keg offerings. Well worth seeking out.

I've overcome my former prejudice against Thornbridge brewery and their pubs to the extent of coming here occasionally and quite enjoying one or two of their beers. On recent visits the beers have been around NBSS 3.5 to 4 - today being an example where the Jaipur was a little down on last week's 4 while the Inverno, a "winter ale" with appropriate spices, was a clear 4 despite tasting like baked apples (without the actual apples, obviously). Formerly a student area, this part of town is now popular with ex-students and young professionals, who are probably no more annoying than I was at their age. This is a pleasant pub with decent beer.
