The Wellington, Kelham Island, Sheffield

Very much a part of the Valley of Beer trail down the Don valley, this is the “ancestral home” of the Little Cart brewery. After entering via a small lobby the bar counter is ahead with vertical drinking space in front, to left and right are sitting rooms with traditional bench seating, chairs, cast iron stools and tables. Both these rooms are finished in white walls with red lincrusta below. There are stained glass windows in various places, all with a red diamond motif which may relate to a previous owning brewery. The bar counter holds 10 handpumps and as expected serves Little Cart beers plus some from other small breweries, my pint of Ormond was an excellent drink, as you should get in a brewery tap. The left hand room has an open fire and a single handpump on its section of counter. I only noticed one keg tap and that was for Jever an authentic German pilsner, some Belgian bottled beers are also available. The customers were a mix of locals and Camra types, the landlord looked the epitome of a man who enjoys real ale. There are a number of humourous notices about the place and framed copies of the Real Ale Twat comic strips in the corridor leading to the toilets and rear smoking area. No prizes for guessing this fine pub has a regular GBG entry.
