The Stable Tavern, Kidderminster

Physically connected to the Talbot and presumably the former stable block. It is totally independent and as of my 2026 visit, it is celebrating 10 years. Packed full of pensioners - I know it was a Wednesday afternoon but again, I can only guess that some sort of pensioner special must have been on. It was uncanny. Low ceiling and bar at the far end. 2-3 cask on and the Butty Bach was in great condition.

At first glance, the Stable Tavern looks as if it ought to belong to the Talbot which fronts Cleobury Mortimer's main street. It's hidden away behind the Talbot through a passageway leading to a car park. There are two or three doors, a couple leading into the lounge and another into the separate bar. Just a handful of locals were gathered in the lounge on our Wednesday afternoon visit. There may well have been more in the bar. The two real ales on were Ludlow Gold & Wye Valley HPA. A third handpull was clipped with Thatcher's Stan's Cheddar Valley. Cobs were on sale behind the bar, whilst some kind of sport was being shown on a TV above one of the entrances. All in all, not a bad pub.
