Thatched Tavern, Evesham

Bit overenthusiastic on my last visit, under my now un-loggable in handle. It's ancient - probably little left of the C13th claim on the brown signs. The A framing, wher the whole building is supported by two pegged tree trunks can be seen at one one end. A more modern extension on the other end. It's in the 2026 Good Beer Guide - so thought a revisit should be on the cards. Positives - relatively good value beer, good and early opening times (11am from Tuesday onwards) and a nice beer guide. Negatives - its very soullessly modern inside and little to identify its age. Beerwise - there were two cask - an HPA and another pale that had a handwritten pump clip. With the heatwave, I went for one of the three keg lagers - Amstel, Cruzcampo and one I don't recall!

Looks the part outside but the innards have been gutted and what you have is a fairly dull modern country pub by numbers - sanded beams, flagstone floor, off white walls, stark lighting. Jumbo hearth with an unlit wood burner which really needed to be roaring. Separate rooms either end of the bar with darts right and dining left. Four pumps at the bar with two on, GK Abbot and Wye Valley HPA, the latter of which was a bit green but drinkable (NBSS 2.5). Compared to the Gate this is an oasis but that's not saying much. I wouldn’t get off the train to re-do the village anytime soon.
