The Royal George, Salisbury

The Royal George is an L-shaped pub with a blue regal carpet throughout and red banquettes with tables and red upholstered chairs that sit under pots, kettles and spoons that hang from the ceiling beams above. The serving counter across the rear supports four hand pumps, two of which were in use drawing Doom Bar and Landlord, and there’s a standard and premium keg selection. There are also drink deals on spirits and I noted an advertisement for the monthly Friday meat raffle. Behind the counter is a loungey snug and at the rear is a pool table past the toilets. There was some background music playing off the jukebox during a recent Friday afternoon visit when a handful of friendly locals were chatting with the equally friendly barmaid. The ale selection isn’t going to draw anyone in, but I enjoyed my visit and would be happy to have this pub as a local.

I called in here on the suggestion of the lad behind the bar at the Five Bells, but the cask beer offering of Landlord and Doom Bar didn't float my boat, on a day when I was hoping to drink mostly local beers.
