Caboose, Salisbury

Visited a couple of years ago, the most striking aspect of the pub was the amount of ornamental cats around the pub. Like Quinno has said, the pub can not seem especially welcoming, but enjoyed a quiet drink here.

Popped in here on 22 December. Interesting 'back street boozer' a proper locals pub. A Victorian one room building with an outside smoking area. The bar is in the back left hand corner. The walls are painted an shade of pale blue and the ceiling is a faded pale brown/orange colour. The decor is a little tired. Given the name of the pub, I was unsurprised to see pictures of cats dotting the walls. There were also horse brasses and a prominent Yard of Ale glass on display. Prominently displayed was a notice saying that dogs and under 18s were not allowed. Beerwise, the usual suspects were on sale. Also available was Black Rat Cider and two real ales, one of which was a very pleasant Downton Winter Solstice. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the other. The pub was busy and I did not find the place unfriendly at all. I was just left alone to sup my beer. I would pop back for another inf in Salisbury again.

Popped my head round the door to see what was on – spotted a couple of ciders (no ale) but was scared off the by the inhabitants, who didn’t seem to be overly welcoming of the friendly face to counter their own. So I moved on. Having seen other reviews elsewhere it appears I am not alone in finding this.

Just down the road from the train station. Beers from itchen,moles and smith's. Rooms available, food served and the pub has a dartboard.

The Cat (formerly the Swinging Cat) has a varied reputation, but on the whole it's a homely, welcoming, slightly shabby, pub. The clientele is generally mixed, punk rockers and suited accountants' being equally at home here. The beer isn't the greatest - my last pint of 6X was a bit too warm and well on its way to its pension. Worth dropping in for a quick pint, but too close to Deacons to be worth making a night of it.
