Fox & Hounds, Pontefract

I'm normally not one for writing reviews but I was absolutely stunned at Marie's review and felt that I must write one. My wife and I came across the Fox & Hounds on Sunday, while on a visit to Yorkshire from our home in Cumbria. Firstly, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and sat at a table in the pub. At least 25 other people were sat around us, an impressive number considering this was after 3pm. We decided to order the carvery - both deciding on the beef which looked delicious. And we weren't disappointed. Although we only ordered a medium serving, which was in the region of £6 - £7, there was sufficient for me and too much for my wife. The meat had been wonderfully prepared and the veg and potatoes cooked well, and, most of all, it was hot. The service was first-class and the staff very polite at all times. Even the gentleman, who I presume was the man in charge, asked us whether we had enjoyed our meal. By the way, as I was driving, I had a couple of coffees, my wife sticking to tea - and the price of those surprised me, £1 and £1.10 each if I remember rightly - NOT a rip off. So after parting with less than £20, and more than satisfied, we returned home. GUESS WHAT? No food poisoning! I don't know what Marie had been smoking prior to her visit to the Fox & Hounds, but I would like some please for my less-happy visits to pubs around the country. I think that Marie has either had a hallucination or has something against the owners or the pub. Her review just be disregarded. I wonder if she knows the meaning of libel ! We aren't often in the area of Pontefract but, if travelling down the A1 again, we will be making a point of another visit to the Fox & Hounds.

I just decided to step off the A1(M) for a meal rather than take a motorway services meal. I was surprised to be instructed to leave my credit card behind the bar. The place was empty. Very odd. The starter was okay. The main meal took a while. Both meal arrived on tiny plates. I had fish and chips. The batter was still runny on the fish and the fish tatsed off. The dessert of apple pie arrived with undercooked apple and soggy pastry. The numerous staff were all too busy laughing and joking amongst themselves and using offensive language. At least according to the menu it was a cheap meal of an early bird special advertised but was shocked to ask to pay full whack. When I politely queried this I was shouted at by the staff member. The menu is deliberately incorrect and they hold onto the credit card to stop customers understandably not paying for the meal. The next day I had food poisoning. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. BTW doesn't the P Hallows review look suspicous to you?
