The George, Ossett

Old looking, possibly 19th century, set back off the road as mentioned. The innards have been gutted over the years leaving the usual L shape with the counter in the back left short arm. Dodgy grey paint job and renewed furnishing which have odd looking stools and tables but it’s not inspiring. My mid week evening visit was almost a solitary affair and a bit sad, it’s got screens, machines and piped music just no punters. Three pulls with two Ossett beers and Tetleys plus a comprehensive range of keg solos. Not sure this one will make it.

Set back a little from the road and with a sitting out area in front, the George offers an unprepossessing aspect, with the front of the pub consisting of a conservatory-type area added on to the original building and having a sloping roof made of corrugated plastic. Once through this the main part of the pub is comparatively presentable, and the bar has three hand pumps. I went for the Tetleys Cask which was a little underwhelming (NBSS 2.5). I was on a mission to have a swift half in a few pubs before going to the match at Ingfields (Ossett United v Liversedge), and only spent a few minutes in here, but I got a cheery "thanks, love - see you soon" on my way out from the lass who served me.
