Brown Cow, Bingley

Upmarket 'country' (as in dining) pub located just over Ireland Bridge from the town centre so I suppose that makes it rural! Anyway, it's all tastefully done, and thankfully there is still a general seating area around the bar as well the tables laid up for those eating. A tidy, part-covered beer garden can also be found at the back near the river. Has a fine array of seven handpumps clipped with Timothy Taylor's Champion Club badges, six of which were different (but the brewery's full core range of cask ales). I went for the Dark Mild (£4.85) but also accepted the offered taster of Landlord Dark for comparison purposes.

This riverside pub seems to be flooded from time to time - as well as the 2015 Boxing Day episode mentioned by a previous reviewer and on WhatPub, there was also one in 2021 which caused a closure, and as my notes made at the time say, required an awful lot of grey paint in the refurbishment. This is a Robinsons pub, and there were six of their cask beers on at the time of my visit, which seems like a lot for a Monday afternoon in October. My half of Boltmaker was very good (NBSS 3.5); the others were Landlord twice, Ram Tam, Knowle Spring and Golden Best. There are many pictures of cows, not all of them brown, and five statues of dogs were on display above the fire place. I wasn't hugely impressed by this pub, despite the good beer, but I do hope they haven't suffered another flood since my visit. Date of visit: 17th October 2022
