The Royal Oak, Wolverhampton

This wasn't originally on our pubs list for our day out in Wolverhampton, but a local CAMRA member suggested we should include it when the trip was discussed on Discourse, so a few of us diverted through West Park, soon to be joined by the others who had gone to the Combermere and found it not open. This was a very pleasant substitute, with our server being welcoming, pleasant and efficient, and the place being bright and sparkling in spring sunshine. There were a number of hand pumps in clusters, but I think it was just three beers on: Wainwright, Banks's Bitter and Enville Ale. I don't think any of our group had the Wainwright, but the other two were in good or better condition. At around 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon no one would expect the place to be "rocking", as the previous reviewer reported, and I'm pleased to say it was simply a pleasant place to drink a beer before moving on.

The Royal Oak is a staple shaped pub with a serving counter across the mid rear wall where premium keg is supported alongside Fosters and ten hand pumps. Bank’s Mild (decent), Sunbeam and Amber were available alongside Howden’s Golden Glow and Marston’s Old Empire IPA. Along the front wall opposite the counter are some small round tables with stools and carpeted seating areas sit to the left and right. The service was friendly and the background music was from my 80s/90s era, wat’s not to like?
