The Pilot, Wolverhampton

This 50’s community pub is now part of the Sizzling pub group and therefore is mostly food orientated. The building underwent a major refurbishment about three years ago which altered the pub quite dramatically, this change can be seen in the pictures. There are two entrances at either end of the front of the building, if you enter the door on the right you will see an open plan layout (although there are two distinct areas) with a central U shaped bar counter, the right side of the room is laid out for family dining with a very modern glitzy décor and arty pictures and vases. The left hand side of the pub is a small public bar which is a little more subtle with plain walls and old pictures of the local area on the walls, it has two flat screen TV’s, a pool table and a dart board. At the front of the building there is a decked patio with a couple of tables, while at the back of the dining area on the right there are double doors which lead out to a beer garden with several picnic tables. Regular ale is Marston’s Pedigree with a single changing guest beer, which was Mitchell’s and Butlers Brew XI on my visit. The Pedigree was ok but the Brew XI had run out earlier that day and they didn’t seem in any hurry to change the barrel. For me this is a funny pub as I really quite liked the public bar area on the left but found the dining area a bit garish and soulless. I’ve eaten here a couple of times in the last couple of years and as with all Sizzling pubs the menu mainly consists of steak and chips. Its cheap but be warned, you pay for what you get. That said I may pop in for a drink in future.
