The Harrowby Arms, Wolverhampton

This 50’s style community local is owned by Banks’s (Marston’s). It has two very large bay windows either side of the entrance and the interior is open plan which helps keep the pub bright. On entering the main door you will find a single large room with a U shaped bar counter protruding from the right hand side, next to the bar on the right is a public bar area with leather fitted seats, pool table, dart board and ceiling mounted pull down projector screen for sporting events. On the left of the entrance is more of a lounge area with several tables and fabric chairs, this area also has a large pull down projector screen against the back wall. Finally at the back of the room is an area specifically set out for dining with tables that were reserved for later, I believe there is a carvery on Sundays. On the walls were some interesting old photos and information about a film that was made in the 50’s at the long since demolished Pendeford airport near by, the film was called “Man in the Sky” and stared Jack Hawkins. There is a grass area at the front of the pub with a big oak tree in the middle and several picnic tables dotted around. Regular ale is Banks’s Mild with an occasional guest appearance by Marston’s Old Empire. Just the Mild available on my visit, which was pretty good. Not a bad pub with friendly elderly regulars, but the beer selection is too limited for my tastes. Ok for a quick pint if your in the area but not worth seeking out for any special reason.
