The Billy Wright, Wolverhampton

The Billy Wright is a large pub with a large carpeted, but sparsely furnished, open plan front area with a counter up the right that supports standard keg alongside Cruzcampo. A second sparsely furnished open plan space is found in the right rear where there’s a dartboard and a large permanent DJ rig that runs across the rear, a Meatloaf Medley was in progress. Televisions throughout were airing muted TNT football, well I think it was muted, the music was quite loud for a midweek afternoon. A sign in the window says ‘no admission after 1am’, so heaven knows when this place closes at the weekend. My days of visiting these late night town centre pubs are long gone so I don’t plan on revisiting.

Sadly I found the drinks in here to be a bit poor. The pub isn't really that good and I was expecting some Billy Wright memorabilia and unless I was not looking hard enough I didn't see any. 4 handpumps dispensed some pretty standard fare.

Basic Amber Taverns pub in the centre of the city, with a notional sports theme that doesn't really seem to go further than the various large-screen TVs on the walls. Perfunctory semi-modern furniture and decor. Relatively quiet on a Sunday evening, apart from some reasonable background music, but looks the sort of place that could get quite lively earlier in the weekend. Two of four handpumps in use, both with Banks's beer, offering the optimistic (for the time of year) Sunbeam and a pleasantly drinkable pint of Mild (all the better for costing just £2.00, and with the barman volunteering a top-up as it was a touch lively).

Pub is situated a short walk from both the rail and bus stations , it is a large open plan type of place and was fairly busy on my brief incursion . Service was quick , beers were the normal selection of fizzy lagers and smooth pours and a selection of four handpulled ales from the Banks stable , i had a pint of Sunbeam which was OK , beer was cheap my Sunbeam and friends fizzy Fosters coming in at just £4.20 . Not to bad in here for a quick pint .

This is a Victorian corner pub with a rear patio. The upper area is in white painted brick, with black paitwork on the windows and it is interesting to note the rounded windows one side and the rectangle on the other. The lower frontage is in a rustic look, in a coffee colour. The corner entrance seems to be patrolled by bouncers continually. The interior has an L-shaped room in cream, wood and coffee patterned wallpaper. There is a nice wood fireplace and the walls are festooned with Wolves and Billy Wright memorabilia and newspaper clippings. Several TVs were showing sport and there is a big screen facility, not in use at my visit. The service was fine and the place was quite busy with a maturer clientele. The music was general and at a decent level. Beer; usual tap stuff with Oyster Stout and on handpull there was Banks's Sunbeam, Bitter and a decent enough MILD. It is often busy, as the drinks are so cheap, but it is a one-pinter at best.
