The Walsall Arms, Walsall

Good honest local pub tucked away east of the town centre. The bar is to left as you enter, ahead is a very long function room with access to the servery. The bar proper is across the front width of the building with a counter in the middle to the left. A slightly club atmosphere inhabits the place, maybe the bland white walls, although with black and white photos as decor, it could be the banquette seating at wooden tables, the industrial carpet or the tongue and groove counter in lighter wood. Not sure, there are untouched bits of a nineteen thirties pub waving at you here and there. Six pumps with nicely kept beers, three from Wye Valley plus Green Duck, Salopian and er…Tribute. Keg tastes are catered for with, oh lots of stuff including two varieties of Carling , yellow and white handles, Coors, Madri, Guinness, Worthingtons (!), and some sort of cider presumably reprocessed in Burton like the the other stuff ( no not Guinness obviously). Big screen in the corner showing sports stuff. GBG 2023 listed but possibly not worth a detour, although my preferences being obviously different to Steve C I found the tattooed barmaid/landlady a very pleasant person.

The Walsall Arms is a dimly lit local’s boozer tucked away in the backstreets, as a non-local I certainly wouldn’t have stumbled across it. The front bar runs the width of the pub with high tables along the front windows that are faced by a bar counter along the rear wall. Up the left are some banquettes and in the rear is a long room with a couple of dartboards. A skittle alley is advertised as being for hire. When I arrived the televisions at either and of the bar were airing muted snooker while some background music played, but football build up was turned on just before I left. four of the six hand pumps were in operation drawing Wye Valley HPA, Butty Back and Bitter alongside Wychwood’s Hobgoblin. Standard keg was also available alongside Madri and the food seemed to be rolls from the container on the bar. Everyone seemed friendly enough, although I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of the woman pulling the pints.

Refurbished and open plan but bustling with cheery punters enjoying the excellent live entertainment on our Saturday evening visit. Beers on were: Enville Ale, Holden's Golden Glow and Wye Valley HPA and Bitter. The Enville Ale was in decent shape but it's a fairly dull selection when compared to others in Walsall.

There has been a significant internal refurb in a modern style which feels clean but sterile in an open plan interior that winds around an island bar.There is a large games room to the rear with a wide screen and darts boards in a somewhat austere space.I failed to spot the skittles alley.There were 5 handpumps ,but my Enville Ale despite being clear ,proved a rather dull drink.A good singer lifted the atmosphere ,but some of the punters on my Saturday night visit were well oiled and a bit lairy.There are better pubs close by.

This is a bostin' pub now, it has been pulled back from awful into a wonderful place to meet, drink, eat and have fun in the skittle alley. Six quality real ales are available, with always a local ale on. My friends are waking up to this beautifully refurbished hostelry as the place to be in Walsall town.

Has now changed hands and i must say its fantastic !! Pub has since been bought and has been fully re-furbished .It is a freehouse with traditional ales run by the experienced publicans Jim and Gay chambers ( formerly from the successful Fountain Arms) in Lower Foster Street Open from 12 till late with great skittle nights and a private function room for parties etc.... This pub has been taken over by Jimmy Chambers formerly of The Fountain. It has been given a makeover and now stocks 4 or 5 real ales. The front two rooms are now knocked into one, and there is only one way in now, but it's well worth a visit.

went to this pub 2 years ago and was made to feel so unwelcome we left very quickly , after hearing it had new landlord and landlady in september 2011 i gave it another try, wow what a differance , the pub is now so full of life at weekends, and staff and regulars alike make a visit to this pub a complete pleasure.
