Nice little Holden's pub. A few friendly locals in when I visited. Only Golden Glow and Black country Bitter on. The Bitter was in good shape. Happy I called in and would visit again.

Being a Holden's pub this was actually the main target of my visit to Lower Gornal and having looked at the reviews I wasn't expecting a lot. However, on the day it turned out to be just as good as any of the other pubs I went to, albeit with a smaller beer range than some. Like most of the pubs round here it was once a public bar and saloon with a tiled floor to the right and carpeted to the left. There was a dart board that was obstructed and I also noticed a TV screen. The beers on the five hand pumps were Holden's Black Country Bitter, Mild, Golden Glow and Old Ale with Abbeydale Riot as a guest. I tried the Bitter (£2.45) which was in good nick and followed it with the Old Ale (£3.35) which was served with a tight sparkler so it came out looking like a pint of Guinness. It tasted superb. I really liked this one and much prefer it to the Mill up the road which has been rather gentrified and is more expensive.
