Imposing pub / restaurant with an opened-out L-shaped layout under a high ceiling. The front bar, left-hand side lounge area (up a single step) and rear dining room have all been refurbished in a light semi-modern style. Cask ale is thankfully still a feature here, with Wainwright Gold, Hobgoblin IPA and the more local Wye Valley HPA (£4.50) available from the bank of six handpumps.

A large and very smart pub. The Victorian exterior belies a modern interior. Open plan and sort of J-shaped with a central bar. 6 handpumps on the bar with 3 Backyard beers (Blonde, Antipodean and Subversion), Doom Bore, Belhaven Grand Slam and Butty Bach being your choice today. The area to the back has U-shaped sofa-like seats and beyond that is a beer garden. Pleasant enough though a bit corporate.
