The Swan, Birmingham

I called in last night, only a quick stop, a pleasant enough place. I would be happy to call in again.

This is a terraced pub. The building looks Georgian in style and has certainly been a pub of the same name since at least 1884. The style is an elongated cottage - with four upper sash windows, with two bay windows flanking a neo-classic entrance on the lower storey. There is also a 'horse' side entrance. It is in cream brick with black paintwork. The interior has a couple of rooms, but the bar to the right, I didn't see. To the left is the lounge and I managed a swift half here. The room is in white, red and wood, with some arty flower pictures on the walls. There is a sofa, along with general tables and chairs in red. A few mirrors are also present, along with a table football game. There is a stone fireplace feature. The TV wasn't on and the music was general and quiet. The service was friendly (apologised for putting a real ale in a Carling glass!) and there was no other clientele. Beer; usual tap stuff with a decent enough Moorhouse Blond Witch. Only a fleeting visit as it had been closed earlier in the day and I only had time later for a half. A nice enough place, and I am pleased I popped in - just wish there was a little more on the real ale front.
