The Lamp Tavern, Birmingham

What could be described as a proper pub its a great little basic Irish boozer, It was very welcoming to our crowd of crawlers and the free sausage rolls, hot and cold went down a treat as did my pint of Hobsons Town Crier.

Out in the middle of nowhere, this is well described below, with a friendly local crowd and landlord to match and rare for an Irish pub in that it sells a selection of real ales and quality ones to boot. I went for the Hobson's Town Crier which I recall was very good.

A small one-roomer with a venerable Irish landlord, who is clearly averse to change and long may it continue to be so. The walls are covered with photos and similar and the place has a wonderful 'lived-in' feel (ok, slightly tatty) which some may not like but works for me. Beers as described below and in good condition, although it was very tempting to go for the Guinness.

A classic small Irish boozer tucked away among the industrial units of this nether part Birmingham,it is a true must visit pub.The entrance is narrow and you have to squeeze past the corner of the bar.There is a long bench seat running the full length of the modest tap room and the regulars greet newcomers with a friendly welcome.There is a tv on mute at the far end but no other modern distractions.Stools and brittania tables make up the trad furniture.Out the back on the way to the loos are doors to the Lily Langtry room,not sure what lurks behind but closed on my visit. The friendly landlord had three ales from his 5 handpumps on my trip namely Wadsworth 6X,Hobson Best and Town Crier (NBSS 3.5).Cash only but £5 for three thirds seemed very reasonable.Quite a bit of banter ensued with the guv'nor and his regulars and then out came the gratis warmed sausage rolls,which was a lovely touch ,much appreciated by the crawlers. Make the effort to visit this place ,it's totally old school in the very best tradition .A treat,long may it prosper.

A must visit - as these sorts of pubs won't be around forever. 0.5 miles out of the City Centre - but a world apart. Increasing levels of destitution of dilapidated light industrial units and you find this pub in a most unlikely location. Good Beer Guide 2019 entry and the Goffs Cheltenham Gold was perfect. Single roomed - bar decorated with knick knacks and awards going back 25 years.... possibly my favourite thing was the completely empty three bottle white wine chiller
