The Hatton Arms, Warwick

Substantial food-led pub with a impressive lawn stretching down to the imposing flight of 21 locks on the Grand Union Canal. Fully refurbished in an upmarket style with a mixture of comfortable seating, informal dining and restaurant areas. Also has a terrace Garden Bar and beer garden for the better weather. The menu's not cheap, but the place was certainly doing good business on a weekday lunchtime, and the service was attentive without being bothersome. Three real ales on handpump, including Butty Bach, the fine local Church Farm Harry's Heifer (£3.60) and a beer from Purity. Overall, a good place to stop off on a long car journey.

Now called the Hatton Arms after a major refurbishment, due to the new owners who also own Hatton Country World. Very much a Bistro pub but not at the expense of the ales and dare I say it, fine selection of wine. A mixture of local ales from the Purity house along with various guests and some of the more unusual lagers. It now has a lovely intimate feel to it, which has been achieved by careful interior design in such a large open plan space.
