Half Moon, Rugby

This is a compact, single room local's boozer with what appears to have been a previous two room layout. The knocking through into one room has created a games area to the left of the pub and the main bar space on the right hand side. The left hand side has exposed floorboards, a neat stone fireplace and a dartboard. Seating was fairly simple, with a few pews along the walls and some standard chairs elsewhere. In the rear corner there is a table skittles game which someone was kind enough to give us a demonstration of, allowing us to all enjoy a game. A mid section has a single banquette next to a fireplace with a simple mirror above. A pool table dominated this space whilst a TV showed a World Cup fixture with the commentary quietly playing in the background. The bar area is a little cramped, with space for a drinking ledge alongside the servery and a small recess to the front with a comfier looking chair which seemed to have been claimed by a very friendly pub dog who offered a tail-wagging welcome to us on arrival. There is another fireplace here and a second TV showing the same match was hung near the bar. Just the two ales on hand pump here - Hook Norton Hooky and Courage Best. It might not be the most enticing ale line up in town, but the Hooky was in pretty good shape and definitely enhanced my skittles skills. This is the sort of pub where you know exactly what you're going to get and if you're looking for a solid, reliable boozer with friendly locals, pool & darts and sports on TV, this is a really good option to have. A 'mid-table' kind of pub, but one that I'm glad I visited.

Locals pub. L-shaped with a knocked-through area to the left which holds a games area with two dart boards, pool and the local cheese skittles. Elsewhere there is a nice snug seating area with a nice old fireplace. Well-worn quarry tiled floor. TV switched on, showing World Cup footy. Basic rear patio. Friendly pub dog. Four pumps with two ales (Hook Norton and Courage Best). My Hooky was in better than expected nick. Worth going in for a go on the cheese skittles.

A mid-terrace locals boozer, a good atmosphere while I was there,not much of a beer choice but my pint of Hooky was OK.Worth a passing pint.

A proper old school town centre boozer with a decent following from locals and a very friendly pub dog.The interior splits into three sections with a pool table,Northamptonshire skittles and a bar area to the right hand side.Some original features remain like a real fireplace and etched glass window.The friendly locals explained to the PuG crawlers how to play and score skittles,prompting an informal contest with everyone having a go. There are four handpumps but the selection of Courage Best and Hooky (£2.80) was a bit mundane on my trip.However worth popping in to sample the traditional pub atmosphere.
